A very long time ago (woa:), I worked for a district that brought in a motivational speaker at the beginning of every school year. It was actually pretty cool. They always brought someone who was very inspirational or motivational and made you just want to get back into your classroom and TEACH. One year, they brought in Amanda Gore, a motivational speaker from Australia. Man—she has the energy of my 3 year old!!! I don’t know how an adult can have so much energy!! But she’s good..really good.
So today, I wanted to share with you one of her videos I found on youtube. Here she talks about recognition. It got me thinking about kids and how they feel about recognition. When a teacher does it the right way (doesn’t go overboard/rewards at very appropriate times/tries to reward all students/consistent), I think a student really does respond to being recognized. Even the quietest student sits up straighter after being recognized. They are proud.
It’s 4ish minutes…
