It is Monday! Happy Monday!! So time to share an organizational tip. How do you monitor Writing Workshop? I've heard and tried so many ways. I just love discovering new 'anything' about writing because I love teaching writing (but not 4th grade writing --here in Texas-sorry--just a personal preference). I love everything about Writer's Workshop. I've written about it lots of times... like HERE where I share one way I have monitored where kids are at in the Writing Process. Today I'd like to share another way I have monitored that is especially good with the younger grades.
Have the kids display where they are by either wearing a 'writing workshop necklace' OR by placing a card on their desk.
I like it because:
1. It is visual
2. It reminds them of where they are and what they should be doing. ("Noah, what are you working on?")
3. I can monitor without real intrusion. (no need to ask when I am roving)
You can get cards that I have used before HERE.
And don't forget about the quick management chart you can get for FREE in the same post HERE.
How do you monitor Writing Workshop? Any more ideas? Can you use these cards?
Have a great week!

You're welcome!!
DeleteI would be one of those 4th grade writing teachers in Texas, and it's so frustrating!!! I just think there's such high expectations and not enough time to do it all! I feel so bad for my poor babies. I wish we had enough time to do all the great things you post with Writing. Thanks for all the fantastic ideas.

DeleteIt is a great year for Social Studies--I do love the TEKS in 4th...so much more fun than 2nd or 3rd!!!
